A L I T T L E M O R E
A B O U T M E

I love to hike and wander around finding caves, waterfalls, overlooks and more. I’m a history nerd with a huge wanderlust and a passion for anything from the past. I love my friends, I do everything I can to help them always. I love to travel to new places. I play music too loud always (yes I will be jamming out on the way to meet you). Coffee shops and cocktail bars are like home. One on one conversations of value are glorious. I will pick up cool rocks when I find them.

I’m pretty chill and pretty introverted by nature but I hype up with an extrovert in company (Autism and ADHD gives me the gift of gab and info-dumping). Awesome people fuel me and my energy. Watching couples in love makes my heart sing. I have all the dorky mom energy to fuel us during our adventures. We will laugh a lot, we will have a super awesome conversation at some point, and we will find some epic views to dance around in and enjoy.

As a child, I was raised by a single mother with an extreme wanderlust. Who didn’t blink or think twice when the opportunity arose to drive to Canada multiple times, or New Mexico, or even Kentucky, Luckily even then, I always carried a camera on me.

My journey with photography started formally in 2009 when I would capture bands in poorly lit venues. In 2010 I attended a college level summer art program art the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and learned how to use my new DSLR; as well as getting certified for various Adobe programs at the time.

Throughout the journey I wandered into wedding and lifestyle portraiture. I went to college for photographic arts and small business entrepreneurship at Frostburg State. I always knew what I wanted to do, but how to do it. So spending far too many years in college studying all of the things including wandering into Philosophy classes and falling in love. At the same time I worked a ton of various jobs in the service industry and marketing, while running my business, being a full time student, and restoring my 1950’s MCM Rancher.

I graduated in 2019, took my business full time that December, and now I am here full time capturing memories, making art, and traveling wherever to do so.

Strange Facts About Me

Since picking a photographer is oddly personal, welcome to my flavor of strange <3

1.) Staring less strange first:
-I’m a Taurus Sun and Moon with Libra Rising.
-According to MBTI I’m an INTJ.
-According to Enneagram I’m either a Type 1 with depression, a 4w5, or a 5w4.
I suppose maybe taking that test tipsy on my birthday years ago with friends after a Drag Brunch wasn’t the best timing lol
-I’m also a late diagnosed neurodivergent. Although my teachers really tried to get me
diagnosed earlier in life
-Currently rocking with awareness and an amazing fellow spicy therapist: Autism,
ADHD, and OCD.

2.) I was baby sat by Drag Queens as a kid for a bit. Lot’s of the Wizard of Oz and Casper the Friendly Ghost lives deep in my brain because of it, and The Twilight Zone. Also being an unknowing kiddo with Autism…. my honesty and humor were shaped by this a bit.

3.) I was also raised by my Grandparents too. So cue deep love of musicals, and having a multitude of skills. I can change your oil and do all the regular car maintenance and most home maintenance. Or I can also cook, clean, and be super domestic.

4.) Thank you to my Grandpa the first thing I ever drove was his absolutely giant 1961 John Deere tractor. He also taught me how to drive backwards and how to do all the above car maintenance, and how to back into a parking space with a trailer and a car dolly on the truck.

5.) I went to Catholic School most of my life, and yes I constantly challenged everything including the whole ideology. Growing up very open minded and loving to all at home and then going to school where some thought that way, but not all…. It often baffled me that Jesus could have Sermon on the Mount and speak the Beatitudes and yet people want excuses to treat those who are different as “other” or “less than” and frankly this still does baffle me. Everyone deserves to love and be their full authentic selves. If you fear something, it is simply because you don’t know it and haven’t had experiences with it. If you are choosing to shit on others to feel better about yourself, maybe try therapy and self love instead? It’s pretty awesome. Hate is such a waste of energy and choosing to let toxic energy sit and fester in yourself. Gross. Doing the work and growing is way better, the increased happiness is lovely as well.

My beliefs are blended out of many different ones. We are ants on a floating space rock, the best we can do in this life time is simply being the best we can be and growing that knowledge a little bit more everyday and putting that energy into the universe to help others. Do no harm.

6.) I played tin whistle in a historical reenactment band as a kid. Also yeah, I did French and Indian war and Revolutionary War reenactments.

7.) I also played handbells for agessssss, clarinet, and I have been singing all of my life. I tried to learn guitar once, but the autism didn’t like that one. Too much hand dexterity and coordination needed.

8.) I went diamond mining at Crater of Diamonds in Arkansas and I found a huge Emerald instead. I still have it and love it, and maybe one day I’ll make something wearable with it. But I also don’t want to cut it. It’s too cool.

9.) I’m insanely into Ancestry. I learned my childhood best friend, whom I call my sister, was actually my cousin because of someone reaching out on Facebook. Also her “Aunt Sis” who occasionally watched us is actually my Great Great Aunt. Ever since I have been learning non stop and making trees for friends too. Also yes, this makes me team pro graveyard hangs.

10.) I’ve been: a hair salon assistant, a office assistant and file clerk, the cleaning/everything girl at a local theater, the social media girl/photographer for a few businesses, I had a job in college making steampunk ponies for a conference, a hostess, a server, a banquet server, a bus person in charge of a 200+ item buffet at a casino, a bartender, and a bartender who also had to try to learn barista things and yeah no I cannot sadly do latte art. I really tried to learn, I need help with this. Still wanna learn, but a year of this job and other than landing good milk consistency I couldn’t figure it out at all. That was my last job before I took this business full time, I would 1000% still bartend if I had the time during the week. I adored it.

Also, I was the super helpful kid with cleaning and organizing style OCD… I adored and sought out child labor lol. With the ADHD I also loved having multiple jobs at once. This is how I went to Greece, Italy, Crete, and Turkey in High School.

11.) My family is super into Groundhog’s Day, Volkswagens, Viking stuff, travel, history…. Yeah, that’s our nerd flavor. My mom got married to her now ex husband, whom we still adore, in Punxsutawney, PA on Groundhog’s Day. Yeah they live down south and drive up almost every year still. Occasional I join in too. The nostalgia is nice for me.

12.) I have three cats, one is a diabetic old man who runs my life. The other two are fairly mellow. I also have two chickens, one is chill one is most certainly not chill lol. Also I split the custody of my roommates doggo at this point as well.

13.) I helped raise a kiddo for 8 years with my ex. She is amazing and is becoming even more amazing every day. I never wanted kids, but she rocks and definitely changed everything I thought I knew about myself a few times over.

Also I am a firm believer of it takes a village, growing up with a dead dad and the best ever universe throws you the perfect adopted dad. Yup, we all help in our own ways towards the goal of best interest. Life is for spreading joy, love, having solid connections, and just being the best you you can be and using that you to also help and love and guide others.

14.) I loveee roller skating!

"Maria will take you to magical places you never expected to find such beauty and there, she will make your family shine! If she sends you coordinates to follow, trust her! she does her best work in natural light and scenery, playing with warm golds and jewel tones from the earth. I have booked Maria for my wedding, a boudoir shoot, and now a family mini session and she ceases to deliver! She always makes you feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera and is great at directing even the most camera shy subjects. Her shoots are always fun, silly, and full of love. You will not regret!”— Caroline K.
